Legal, trauma-informed psilocybin journeys and microdosing in Oregon. Supporting healing, growth, inner sovereignty and integration in a safe setting.

What is a psilocybin journey?

A psilocybin journey is a facilitated experience using a natural, non-addictive compound found in psychedelic mushrooms. Rooted in both ancient traditions and modern research, psilocybin has shown promise in supporting emotional healing, personal growth, and expanded self-awareness. The experience is deeply personal — often described as introspective, illuminating, and healing in ways that traditional methods can’t always reach.

Psilocybin support can take many forms — from immersive, full-dose journeys to gentle microdosing protocols that foster clarity and emotional balance over time.

Oregon is the first state in the U.S. to offer legal psilocybin services under the guidance of licensed facilitators who offer steady, non-directive support from start to finish. Mind Monarch is a Portland-based business offering legal psilocybin journeys, microdosing, and integration support across Oregon. These experiences are held in licensed centers that prioritize your safety, comfort, and autonomy.

Who can benefit from the process?

You don’t need a diagnosis or referral to access psilocybin services. If you’re over 21, you may benefit if you’re:

  • Processing grief, trauma, or life transitions

  • Experiencing anxiety, depression, or burnout

  • Living with PTSD, brain injury, substance use challenges, or coping strategies that no longer serve

  • Seeking emotional clarity and nervous system regulation

  • Exploring spirituality, creativity, or personal insight

  • Feeling stuck and ready for change

You do not need to live in Oregon to access services — many clients travel in from out of state.

What sets this work apart?

Modern research shows that psilocybin can increase neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to rewire, unlearn entrenched patterns, and form new, adaptive connections.

Psilocybin shows so much promise that the FDA recently granted it a “breakthrough therapy” designation — meaning that it may demonstrate substantial improvement above and beyond what’s currently available to address mental health issues. The Oregon program is based on this growing body of research. This makes it uniquely powerful for supporting transformation when paired with the right environment.

With a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, licensed facilitation services offer a space that invites your nervous system to settle and your intuition to lead. You won’t be told what to feel or how to heal. Instead, you’ll be witnessed and supported — gently and consistently — through each part of the process.

About Mind Monarch LLC

Headshot of Char McKendrick, Facilitator

Char McKendrick (‘Shar’)
Licensed Psilocybin Facilitator
OHA #FL-d523eb7b

I’m a licensed psilocybin facilitator and space-holder deeply rooted in trauma-informed healing. My journey with psychedelics began as part of my own work with CPTSD (complex traumas) — a path that has offered not only profound insight but real, lasting change and healing when other approaches fell short. This lived experience continues to inform the grounded, compassionate care I now offer to others, helping those who wish to untangle themselves from their past and find relief in the present.

My own healing has been shaped by early experiences of trauma, abuse, and parentification, as well as the unlearning of a high-control religious environment and a deeper understanding of my own neurodivergence. Through this process of reparenting and restoring inner sovereignty, I’ve become deeply passionate about helping others reconnect with the parts of themselves that had to go quiet to survive.

I’ve spent years immersed in the world of plant and psychedelic medicines in both personal and community contexts. I continue to stay current on psychedelic research and evolving best practices, blending formal training in Oregon’s licensed psilocybin services model with a meaningful history of underground experience.

My personal philosophy blends psychology, medicine, spirituality, and a touch of absurdism. I don’t see these as competing frameworks, but as different languages pointing toward the same underlying mystery — the parts of being human that resist simple explanation yet influence how we move through the world. My approach is very much take what resonates, leave what doesn’t. There’s no single lens clients are expected to adopt; instead, we work with what feels meaningful and aligned for each individual. I’m fluent in symbolism, archetypes, intuition, and pattern-making, while also staying grounded in science, research, and data — moving between these perspectives as supportively as the moment calls for.

Shaped by curiosity, non-judgment, and a deep commitment to learning and unlearning, my facilitation style is relational, intuitive, and client-centered. I create spaces where people can explore their truth at their own pace, with an emphasis on inner sovereignty, nervous system awareness, and the resonance of being truly witnessed. I offer steady, attuned presence — a tether, anchor, flashlight. Not to lead, fix, or diagnose, but to walk beside. I hold space for what’s tender, messy, or long buried, creating the safety needed to feel it fully and move through in your own rhythm. In this work, I’m honored to support others as they grow, reclaim their voice, and step more fully into themselves.

Outside of facilitation, I write poetry under the pen name ind!go r@bbit (indigo rabbit), exploring themes of trauma, identity, and the surreal layers of consciousness that shape our reality. When I’m not working, you’ll find me designing graphics and spaces, hiking, reading, psychophilosophizing, swimming, and tending to my plants and two dogs. I’m drawn to the spaces between things — always seeking new ways to grow, learn, and bring fresh perspective to my work.

I have an affinity for supporting:

  • Inner child healing and reparenting

  • Highly sensitive or neurodivergent people (including AuDHD)

  • Faith transition and religious trauma (ex-/post-Mormon, LDS backgrounds)

  • Unlearning systems of control (religious, cultural, corporate)

  • Burned-out caregivers, leaders, and creatives

  • Women navigating divorce

  • Rebuilding after abuse

  • Those navigating trauma, grief, or life transitions

FAQs + Resources

  • Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in certain mushrooms. It works by interacting with serotonin receptors in the brain, leading to changes in consciousness and perception.

  • Yes, psilocybin is legal in Oregon when administered within a licensed service center and with a licensed facilitator present. These centers follow all state and local laws set by the Oregon Health Authority. While no experience can be guaranteed, licensed facilitation provides a structured, supported setting for your journey.

In Oregon anyone 21 years of age or over can use psilocybin services, for any reason. No diagnosis or prescription is needed. Clients must, however, participate in preparation sessions with a licensed psilocybin facilitator before consuming the product in a licensed service center.

Please note: psilocybin is still federally classified as a Schedule I controlled substance.

  • Licensed psilocybin service centers provide a safe and legally regulated environment for individuals to consume psilocybin under the guidance of trained facilitators.

Mind Monarch partners with a select number of licensed service centers throughout Oregon, including:

The choice of service center depends on factors such as location, availability, and budget. During your discovery call, we’ll discuss which setting may be the best fit for your needs.

  • Many people have prior experience with psilocybin outside of a structured setting. While those experiences can be meaningful, legal psilocybin services in Oregon are intentionally designed to be different — slower, more inward-focused, and supported across the full arc of the experience.

Working with a licensed facilitator means engaging in a regulated process that includes screening, preparation, supported administration, and integration. Research consistently shows that set and setting — including preparation, environment, and interpersonal support — play a significant role in both the quality and durability of psilocybin experiences. Outcomes are shaped not just by the substance itself, but by how the experience is held before and after.

Licensed service centers also source psilocybin exclusively from state-licensed manufacturers, where products are cultivated, processed, and tested according to Oregon Health Authority standards. This allows for known potency, consistent dosing, and traceability — factors that are not present in unregulated or at-home use.

Licensed psilocybin services also operate within clear safety protocols and legal protections. Service centers provide a controlled environment, exact dosing, and trained staff on-site, reducing risks that are more common in unsupervised or at-home use.

A facilitator takes time to understand your history, intentions, and nervous system needs, and remains present throughout the process — from first contact through integration. This continuity of support can help reduce overwhelm, increase emotional safety, and support deeper engagement with the experience if challenging material arises.

Rather than treating the journey as a one-time event, facilitation emphasizes preparation and integration — helping translate insights into real life through reflection, meaning-making, and intentional follow-through. Research suggests this integration phase is a key factor in whether benefits endure beyond the experience itself.

  • I believe the journey begins long before our first conversation. From initial contact through preparation, journey day, and integration, my role is to walk alongside you as a steady, supportive presence. I aim to communicate clearly and in a timely way, and to advocate for clients throughout the process so this work can happen legally, ethically, and accessibly.

I am not a doctor, therapist, or healthcare provider. I am a licensed psilocybin facilitator through the Oregon Health Authority, with deep familiarity navigating liminal spaces and inner healing processes. My approach is non-directive, client-centered, and grounded in trust — honoring your inner wisdom rather than trying to fix, interpret, or lead your experience.

As a neurodivergent person myself, I value flexibility in communication. I’m open to connecting via Google Meet, phone, text, voice memos or email, and in person for those located in Portland. We’ll find what works best for you.

On journey day, I’m mindful of sensory sensitivity. I do not use incense or strong scents in the space. Clients are welcome to bring their own candle if they wish, along with other personal comfort items listed here.

Music is an important part of the journey experience. I have a variety of playlists designed for psilocybin sessions and may offer recommendations based on your intentions and personal story. During the journey, I may also sing, hum, or use a crystal sound bowl or rain stick to support grounding and vibrational presence, when appropriate.

Please note that I may briefly (typically five minutes or less) step out during the journey for my own bio breaks. A licensed service center staff member will always be available nearby during these moments.

My personal philosophy draws from psychology, medicine, spirituality, and even a touch of absurdism. I see these not as competing frameworks, but as different languages pointing toward the same underlying mystery — the parts of being human that are difficult to fully explain, yet deeply felt.

In practice, this means my approach is very much “take what resonates, leave what doesn’t.” There’s no single lens that works for everyone, and your journey doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. Together, we focus on what feels meaningful and supportive for you.

I’m comfortable working with symbolism, archetypes, intuition, and pattern-making, while also staying grounded in science, research, and data. We can speak whichever language best supports your process — or move fluidly between them.

I’m deeply open to feedback and view each journey as a reciprocal learning experience. I remain committed to my own ongoing integration and personal work, and I’m grateful for the trust placed in me and for the opportunity to walk alongside each person in their process.

  • Yes, out-of-state clients are welcome! For an actual psilocybin session, you’ll need to travel to Oregon. Many service centers are partnered with nearby hotels to offer discounted room rates for your stay.

Preparation and integration sessions are offered via Google Meet.

  • Many can benefit from psilocybin, but if you're currently experiencing any of the following, you'll need to wait before participating:

    • Anyone under the age of 21

    • Those who have taken lithium within the past 30 days: Lithium can interact with psilocybin, potentially leading to serious side effects.

    • Individuals who are currently experiencing thoughts of intent to harm themselves or others: Psilocybin can intensify emotional states, and it is important to address these thoughts before considering psilocybin use.

    • Individuals diagnosed with active psychosis: Psilocybin is not recommended for individuals with active psychosis, as it can exacerbate symptoms and lead to unpredictable effects.

If you have any other health concerns or questions, we will go over these during your preparation and orientation session. Together, we can determine if psilocybin is suitable for you based on your individual circumstances.

  • Certain medications can affect eligibility or the experience of a psilocybin journey.

At this time, the primary contraindicated prescription under Oregon Psilocybin Services is lithium use within the past 30 days. Individuals currently taking lithium are not eligible for psilocybin services.

If you are taking any prescription medications, it’s strongly recommended that you consult with your prescribing provider to discuss the safest and most appropriate approach before considering psilocybin. Do not stop or change any medications without a support plan from your doctor.

For individuals taking SSRIs or other antidepressants, a psilocybin journey may still be possible. However, these medications can sometimes blunt the effects of psilocybin, meaning a higher dose may be required to achieve therapeutic effects. You can read more about this in my blog post on psilocybin and SSRIs.

To support informed decision-making, all prospective clients complete an initial safety assessment prior to scheduling services. This helps determine whether psilocybin services may be an appropriate fit before moving forward.

If services are scheduled, clients will complete an additional Oregon Health Authority–required screening as part of the formal preparation process. This screening is part of the state’s regulatory framework and helps ensure services are provided responsibly and in alignment with OHA requirements.

For additional individualized guidance, you may also consider scheduling a consultation with Spirit Pharmacist. This service offers personalized, informational risk evaluations for people considering psychedelic therapies, including how mental or medical conditions, medications, and supplements may interact with psilocybin.

  • Yes — for some clients, a dual or stacked journey series may be an option.

This typically involves two separate journey days spaced within a few days to one week, allowing time for rest and reflection in between. This format can be especially supportive for people traveling from out of state or those seeking a deeper, more immersive container for their work.

Each journey serves a different purpose. Some people choose to begin with a lower-dose journey to meet the medicine, followed by a higher-dose journey. Others prefer a higher-dose journey first, followed by a lower-dose experience that supports integration and processing. There is no single “right” approach.

Additional preparation and integration sessions are included as needed to support the expanded process.

Whether a dual journey series is appropriate depends on individual factors including intentions, prior experience, nervous system capacity, and logistical considerations. This option is discussed collaboratively during the Safety & Scheduling phase.

  • Most clients find that a single journey provides profound benefits and insights. However, some individuals do choose to have additional sessions for further exploration or to deepen their understanding of the experience.

Ultimately, the decision of how many sessions to have is yours. A facilitator can help you determine the best course of action based on your specific needs and preferences.

  • Meaningful outcomes are often rooted in solid preparation, a strong connection with the right facilitator, and a willingness to fully engage with the process.

In addition, research has shown that the following factors seem to help mitigate potential harms, and increase the likelihood of benefit from psilocybin, both during and following the experience:

    1. Preparing for your experience through psychedelic education and intention setting (facilitator’s role).

    2. Having supportive family or friends available around the time of your psilocybin experience.

    3. Developing a breathing/contemplative/meditation/journaling practice to help prepare for the experience and for ongoing integration.

    4. Ensuring that you have time to process your psilocybin experience in the days following your session.

    5. Having ongoing therapeutic support available is not necessary but may be supportive.

  • If you’re traveling from outside Portland, it’s best to arrive the night before your scheduled journey. While start times are flexible, most journeys begin in the morning. Depending on dosage, you will typically be legally released 6–8 hours after consuming psilocybin. However, there is flexibility to extend your stay if more time is needed to ensure safety before release.

Per Oregon law, you cannot operate a motor vehicle the day of your journey, so you’ll need transportation arranged (a trusted contact, rideshare, or taxi).

After your session, plan to spend the rest of the day in a calm, comfortable environment — such as a hotel or other restful space — where you can begin integrating your experience. It’s best to keep the following day free from work, travel, or major responsibilities to allow your mind and body space to process and settle.

  • During a microdosing session you'll consume a very small amount of psilocybin which will not produce any noticeable effects or altered states. With continued regular sessions, this means that you'll be able to obtain the benefits of psilocybin over a gradual period of time.

  • Oregon Health Authority’s rules do not allow for a client’s therapist to accompany a client during a journey at this time. However, your personal therapist can be invaluable during preparation and integration. You will work out those details with your facilitator.

  • Unfortunately, no. Psilocybin is still a Federal Schedule I substance and cannot be covered by Medicare or private insurance. Currently all costs must be paid out-of-pocket.

  • Accessibility matters deeply to me, and I aim to make this work available to a wide range of people and financial circumstances. Mind Monarch operates on a sliding scale model for facilitator services to support economic diversity and reduce financial barriers when possible.

Sliding scales invite honest self-assessment — not proof of income — and rely on community trust and balance. The framework below, adapted from Worts & Cunning’s Guide to the Sliding Scale, can help you determine where you might fall. You’re invited to choose a rate that reflects your current financial situation, capacity, and privilege.

Top of the Scale — Pay it forward
You can comfortably meet your basic needs (food, housing, health care, transportation). You may have savings, expendable income, and access to new items or travel without financial strain. Paying at this level helps sustain accessibility for others who have less financial flexibility.

Middle of the Scale — Sustainable balance
You are generally able to meet your basic needs, though it may take some planning or occasional stress. You may have some debt but can cover essentials. Paying at this level supports both your needs and the sustainability of this work.

Bottom of the Scale — Supported access
Meeting basic needs is a source of ongoing stress or uncertainty. You may rely on public assistance, have limited expendable income, or experience housing or employment instability. Paying at this level makes participation possible while honoring your current reality.

In addition to the sliding scale, Mind Monarch offers a social equity scholarship, providing free or reduced-cost facilitation — not including psilocybin product or service center rental fees — for individuals who may not otherwise have access to psilocybin services. Scholarships are offered as capacity allows. You can learn more about this offering in the next section of the FAQ.

Some service centers offer a limited number of discounted room rentals through their social equity programs as well, which may help further offset costs.

You may also be eligible for a grant from the Psilocybin Access Fund or Althea’s Forward Fund.

  • Mind Monarch is committed to making psilocybin facilitation accessible to people from all walks of life — especially those who have been historically excluded from healing resources or impacted by systemic inequities.

To honor this commitment, a social equity scholarship is available on an ongoing basis, providing free or reduced-cost facilitation for individuals who may not otherwise be able to access psilocybin services. This scholarship applies only to facilitator services — including preparation, journey support, and integration sessions.

Scholarship offerings comply with Oregon Health Authority/Oregon Psilocybin Services regulations and do not include psilocybin product or service center fees. Some service centers offer a limited number of discounted room rentals through their social equity programs, which can help further offset costs for eligible clients.

This offering is designed to support individuals who have faced barriers to accessing healing — including people experiencing financial hardship, identifying as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, or neurodivergent, impacted by trauma or systemic oppression, or serving as frontline caregivers, community healers, or educators who often prioritize others’ well-being over their own.

You’re welcome to apply directly via this form — or, if you’d prefer to connect first, email mindmonarchpdx@gmail.com. Eligible applicants will be added to a waitlist and contacted as openings become available.

If you or your organization would like to help make psilocybin facilitation more accessible, donations to the social equity scholarship fund are deeply appreciated. Your contribution directly supports future recipients in receiving this work at little or no cost. Email mindmonarchpdx@gmail.com to learn more about contributing.

This program reflects Mind Monarch’s belief that access to transformative healing experiences should not depend on privilege or income — and that community care means creating pathways for everyone to participate.
